that typhoon is now moving off the philippines. meteorologist robert speta has been following this storm. robert, tell us the latest. >> well, right now the storm is moving away from the philippines, it's over waters in the south china sea, but still, you're seeing some in-flow moisture come across luzon here, still bringing the risk of some flooding off there towards the north, because really, at this time, over the next several days, this storm system will just be continuing to linger here. now, the good news is that farther down towards the south in t in, you can see how it's north of this trap where you're seeing the widespread devastation. several towns here, includiing nubeton completely decimated. so, the good news at least at this time is the rainfall has ceased, allowing for rescue workers to really get in there and help people out. so, we're definitely going to continue to watch this storm system, and even to the north of that continued rainfall. but let's switch gears and look into the north, because across northern japa

we worked together on the recognition of philippine know veterans and he thanked me for my interest and working with him on an interest so dear to his heart. these are just a few stories. i know there are thousands more to be told. but the real story was this was a man who sacrificed for his country. but ultimately because of a kind heart and loyally to the ideals we process as americans, he became one of the most important yet humble leaders in the united states senate. senator inouye reminded us what it means to be an american hero, a war hero who carried the burden of his service with him all of his life. his courage, his patriotism, his respect for the values he fought for formed his views in this chamber. we are saddened today with the passing of one of the most respected and icon i can lead e a hero a voice for reason and common sense when reason rationalty and common sense was too often in short supply. he will be missed by all of us who had the privilege to serve with him but by a nation who needs more leaders like him. all of us remember his lasting influence, his way of making

kill over 1,000 people in the philippines. fortunately there were no deaths in palau but high winds and torrential rains caused widespread damage. a week ago the ambassador from palau, the honorable hersey kilta wrote to me as the chair of the committee on energy and natural resources for assistance to nations that are in free association with the united states. and the ambassador asked for my help in responding to the disaster, but he did not ask for additional funding. instead the ambassador asked that the agreement on future that was signed between the united states and palau in 2010 be added to this emergency supplemental so that the funding already agreed to by representatives of the united states would become available for disaster relief and recovery in palau. i fully support the request by the ambassador. i'm glad to have the cosponsorship of my colleague, senator webb, who is chairman of the asia pacific subcommittee, and senator wyden who of course is the incoming chair of the energy committee. and i urge my colleagu
